Hello Fellow Game Developers,

Today we are releasing Skyline Game Engine v1.1.1.0 which as you will notice has moved the revision number up by one and reset the patch count.
This has happened because we have created a well sought after editing change. ... .. ... dun...dun....dun.

Vertex Snapping: ( Video will be added later so check back :) )

By holding the V Key, you will now activate the vertex snap toolset which allows you to then select the vertex you wish to move, rotate or scale your mesh on the selected entity.
Once you have selected a vertex, then you can either:

  • Click on a target mesh's vertex which will then translate the model via the vertex selected to the closest vertex to the second selection point,
  • or use you use the gizmo and drag the movel by its vertex point to the closest vertex to the cursor. Basically a constant raycast.

This is not all though as this will work with multi selection and of course the rotation and scaling too.
By this i mean, you can select a vertex and then rotate all selected entitiues about that point. For instance, take a door with a pivot point in the center.  Rotating this door would rotate the entity about thispivot point, now when you select a vertex at the corner of the door, you can rotate the door in the scene as if it is rotated at the hinge. Very useful!

Scaling also works the same way, Select a vertex at the far side of the model and when scaled in an axis, it will stretch from that point. Great for spanning gaps. Align the entity on one side of the gap,. select the vertex on that side and scale to stretch to the other side.

You can also duplicate entities via shift drag operation while holding v to snap the newly duplicated entities by the previously selected vertex and it will copy the selected vertex to the new entity.

Lots more power and we would love to hear from you all about how the vertex snapping works in your environment...
Well, thanks for reading :)

Remember: that vertex snapping only works when the V key is held down, which goes for the standard grid snapping too which uses the G Key

Please see changelog for all the latest fixes and new bits!

New:

  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: while holding the V key
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Select Entity > Press and hold V > Select a vertex on selection > Then click a target entity at the closest Vertex
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Hold V key while no vertex is selected will vertex snap based on selection pivot.
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Multi Selection for a vertex on entities is now supported
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Multi Selection of entities to move by vertex point is now valid.
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Multi Selection and single selection duplication will use the vertex point to move the new entities with.
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Choosing a vertex and then using the rotate tool will rotate the entity about that pivot. Great for doors
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Choosing a vertex and then scaling will scale from that point
  • New: Feature - Vertex Snapping: Multi select and hold V to select vertex, then clicking on a target entity will move all entities relative to the gizmo

Updated:

  • Updated: Skyline Standard Grid snap defaults to 1 meter steps insteasd of 0.05 which was just painful lol :P

  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "Change Materials" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "Edit Actions" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "Edit Properties" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "Edit Dynamic Properties" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "Save Preset" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "New Model" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "New Camera" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "New Directional Light" now works

  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "New Particle" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "New 2D Audio" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Right click menu option "New 3D Audio" now works
  • Updated: Scene Entity List: Icons are closer to their representations.

Fixed:

  • Fixed: Dragging a preset from the scene entity list with multiple selections would always take the first selected items name rather than the entity that they were dragged from.
  • Fixed: Spawning a preset at runtime that creates multiple entities would not set the positions with their local coords
  • Fixed: Spawing a multi preset at runtime placed all entities except the last one at 0,0,0
  • Fixed: Spawning multi presets did not apply all entity properties to all entities, again only the last one.
  • Fixed: Spawning multi presets that have attachments will not move the children to world zero. They will stay as expected of them.
  • Fixed: (MAJOR) Scene Entity List: Such a silly mistake was made which stopped the right click from working on the scene entity list.
